LSPT 201 - Criminal Law 3 Credits
Traditional and contemporary doctrines of substantive criminal law will be covered, including the elements of crime, the theory and degrees of different crimes, inchoate crimes, vicarious liability, affirmative defenses, the Model Penal Code, and theories of punishment. Emphasis is given to examining how cases proceeds in the criminal justice system from the time of arrest to the filing of criminal charges, on through pre-trial, trial, and sentencing. Case studies are used to help students develop stronger investigative skills and to hone their critical thinking and analytical reasoning.
