This course investigates American Indian works of literature from pre-contact times to the present. It examines how American Indian writings of yesterday and today have attempted to shore up a sense of cultural identity and tradition through written and orally transmitted texts. The course focuses on many of the more well-known touchstones of Native/colonial relations as well as modern American Indian culture, literature, and way of life.
