This course studies the development of jazz and popular music in the United States. Jazz, blues, folk, rock, and other popular music forms will be heard and studied along with influential instrumentalists, singers, and band composers. Important historical and social events that paralleled jazz and popular music development will also be discussed. Some live and recorded demonstrations of musical style periods will be presented.
