Are you interested in developing a solid understanding of the laws and legal systems shaping industry and government? Maybe you are interested in working in a compliance- or law-related field that could include a law firm, corporate legal department, a local/state government office, or in a trust department of a bank? Then, Legal Studies may be the program for you.
This degree program concentration is designed to increase your knowledge about the legal profession while providing the foundational coursework needed to develop a background in legal theory and practice, and legal systems and institutions. Program curriculum will help you develop important knowledge and skills in fact identification and analysis, compliance, research and writing, creative thinking and problem-solving skills, and field-related digital competence. This emphasizes on a contemporary foundation in the law and basic legal concepts could help you begin a career in a number of legal and non-legal departments and offices.
And high school students may be interested to learn Legal Studies has created a unique educational pathway so those interested can get a start in pre-law studies, with program courses coordinated to work with most secondary class schedules. Prospective transfer students may want to inquire about the program’s transfer option with Idaho State University and Lewis-Clark colleges to earn a Bachelor’s of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Paralegal Studies; each college offers in-person and hybrid course modalities.

Interested students should discuss qualifications with an admission counselor in Student Services. Students may enroll either Fall/Spring semesters.
Intended Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate oral and written skills by conveying knowledge and ideas clearly and precisely
- Demonstrate critical reasoning and analysis and the ability to synthesize and summarize findings to reach solutions to problems
- Demonstrate skill in analyzing, conforming, and preparing legal documents/forms to industry standards and procedural requirements
- Demonstrate competency using current technology and digital resources to meet employer needs
- Identify and implement standards of ethics and professionalism
- Demonstrate employability skills characterized as the ability to collaborate effectively in multiple roles, organize workflow, prioritize assigned tasks, and meet deadlines
Program Costs
Students can expect to spend approximately $190-$250 in books and supplies per semester.
