LSPT 104 - Constitutional Law, Rights, and Responsibilities

3 Credits

This is a survey course that explores basic principles of the U.S. Constitution and the powers, rights and liberties it defines. Course materials are intended to help students develop practical understanding and the critical analysis needed to scrutinize and explain fundamental rights underlying important legal concepts like equal protection under the law and the rationale behind protecting free speech and expression. Students will acquire analytical and oral argument skills by engaging in reviewing case studies that provide the foundational authorities for the basis of judicial law-making, while learning the limits of those authorities which constrain a free society. Additional focus is given to learning the structure and functions of the Constitution and the legal reasoning that serves to promote rights and responsibilities of the citizenry it serves.
