Placement Guide and Scores

Placement scores help advisors place students in math and English courses to ensure the most sucess. Please see an academic advisor for further questions in building 3, room 330 or contact them at 208.524.3000 ext. 2.

English

Students attending CEI must take the Write Class Placement unless they have previous applicable English college credit.

The CEI Write Class Placement uses multiple measures such as GPA, standardized test scores, and self-assessment to direct students into the appropriate English courses.

Upon completing the Write Class Placement, students may be placed into ENGL 101 Plus (ENGL 101P with ENGL 101) or ENGL 101. Students may choose to take ENGL 101 Plus even if they are placed into a higher course.

To take the Write Class Placement, visit CEI Write Class and sign in using your CEI username and password. The Write Class Placement may only be taken one time. Your Write Class score will transfer to your account within one to two business days at which time you may register for the appropriate English class.

NOTE: Select programs require students to take the Accuplacer (see the chart below). These students do not need to take the Write Class Placement.

Accuplacer English and ALEKS Math placement exam scores last for 2 years prior to date of registration. The SAT and ACT scores for Reading/Writing and Math last for 5 years prior to date of registration.

In order to register for English 101, CEI requires each student to have an English placement exam score on file.

In order to register for Math 123, Math 143 Pre-Calculus or Math 153 Statistics, or a higher math class, CEI requires each student to have a math placement exam score on file.

No math placement score is required to register for Math 108, Intermediate Algebra. If students do not meet the minimum score requirement and choose to take math 108 without a placement score on file, it is highly recommended to meet with an Academic Advisor prior to registration.

If a student chooses to register for a math class that they do not place into, and later does not earn the grade they wanted, no tuition refund will be issued.

CLEP testing is also available: Please contact the Advising Office for more information. To schedule a CLEP test, contact the Testing Center at 208.535.5438 for more information.
